SW MN and Gold Canyon AZ | Why 4 row plot ?? To me 4 row plots are not good for data on corn because of the height differences one can have. A short corn inbetween 2 tall hybrids doesn't have a chance. In the real world (elite data plots)most companies (atleast stine does anyway)plants 4 rows and harvest the middle 2 for yield. The outside rows are for enviromental integrity. What can we learn from that as farmers doing plots??4 rows doesn't give equal chance for each variety tested. 8 rows is better if possible. When I had a 6 row head I used to plant 8 rows and harvest the middle 6.
The plot gets wider that way so replication is needed. My 2 cents after doing plots for 30 years. | |
