EC SD | OK - I looked them up...
Fermentation at a modern ethanol plant releases about 18.35 lb of CO2 per bu of corn. The corn plants growing that bushel of corn sequester around 100 lb of CO2 to form roots, stover, and grain. So what is the real issue here?
This "deal" to build CO2 pipelines is motivated by profits and government incentives with virtually zero of the proceeds going to the landowners impacted by the pipelines. There are many other ways to capture and use the CO2 from fermentation. It is very pure so it is ideal for beer and carbonated beverage making. Take the dirty/toxic CO2 from other industrial processes (like coal burning, etc) and inject that into the ground instead. | |
