Subject: Old combines, Red or Green?

I have decided that I would like to do my own harvesting on my 150 acres. I have decided to look for either any of the 4400-7720 John Deere combines or any of the 1400 series Internationals. I decided to limit my search to Green and Red do to location of parts and dealer service. If I go green I think I want a 404 engine so that if the combine turns into a salvage unit do to higher priced repairs than it is worth. I could then put that 404 engine in my 4020 gas. Should I stay away form hydros in these older machines or are they pretty trouble free? Obviousley if a hydro goes I would have a salveage machine.I heard Internatioanls are supposed to be easier to work on. What are the pros and cons of a rotary unit
I want some thing easy to work on because I will have to try to do my own repairs. Also price and avalability of heads is a concern. would like opions from folks that have run and/or worked on both.

Thanks Jeff
