midwest | I feel that debt and income are mostly driven by emotion in our occupation. Sure you have to look at the mathematics to see if it could be purchased, then you have to look at the emotion side to see how you feel about the purchase, such as could I spend (or borrow) it for something else or maybe you could just do without? As for the income side, if all you needed to do was make a living and breakeven then figure out what that number is and contract all your product (no worries) and don't worry (notice I said worry, an emotion) about maybe marketing for a good profit and not wanting any more in life. With all the stuff I read about marketing, my gut is still the best marketeer I have and it doesn't cost me a $6 an acre fee. I don't know about you guys but emotion plays way to much into my operation. I like to think things out over and above the math, even if the math doesn't work on somethings emotion tells me it will work and usually 9 times out of 10 it turns out well. I am not a psych major just a dirt farmer, so that is just my 2 cents. | |
