Which line to LP line is 120V? and what kind of multimeter are you using? what kind of gas hose connects the stove?

I'd think the hoses I've seen would ground the LP line to the appliance, and the appliance should be grounded through the plug. Check the appliance frame to an extension cord, voltage to ground on the extension cord, voltage from neutral on the appliance to ground and neutral on the extension cord. If it doesn't make sense, check the extension cord hot to neutral and ground voltages.

Tripping the GFI is correct, if there's voltage present, something else should trip also, so I have a hard time believing the appliance is showing 120V and is grounded.
