SW Saskatchewan | Never have owned or used a spray-air but a lot of our neighbours have over the years and the results are what you say---just haven't seen any crop that brown unless they were spraying rustler!
Especially good with the expensive grass control chemicals.
Extension people in Alberta explain it as a "water volume" effect- less water makes for a hotter chemical.
But you can make any day too windy to spray with one of those if you aren't careful. Air induction nozzles and sp sprayers that can run @ 20mph can give low volumes and decent droplet size but admittedly not the leaf coverage that one can get with a spray-air. But the lower water rates can give close to the same chem saving if canopy conditions are suitable.
