North Central Oregon | The state increased the redemption rate from 5 to 10 cents here in Oregon. Now there is a problem with people stealing bags of cans from other peoples property. Practically every day on a local town’s community page on Facebook there is someone posting surveillance video of individuals stealing garbage bags of cans. Police do nothing about it. We also have the wastefulness of people buying the flats of store brand water with food stamps, where often the deposit is more than the cost of the water, then dump the water and return the bottles for cash. It’s how some are converting food stamps to cash to buy drugs, alcohol or other non-covered items. | |
