Subject: RE: Stockpiling Sorghum Sudan

Athens, TX
I haven't tried but would be interested in your / others results. I stockpile bermudagrass starting end of August, start grazing mid-November but struggle in January with drop off of quality and need for more nutrition due to weather / cold. I planted brassica / cereal rye last fall but did not grow well due to drought. I want to try again, but looks like we are heading into summer drought again.
Questions I would be interested in: how does the quality hold in January compared with fertilized bermudagrass? How much yield / stocking rate with S-S compare with bermudagrass? Could you pair it with cold tolerant winter annual like cereal rye / brassica and graze 2 days on S-S and 1 day in winter annual? Could you make it through January with dry pregnant cows on just S-S and supplement? How soon before frost would you need to plant it?
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Chris
