Subject: RE: Stockpiling Sorghum Sudan

Princeton, Indiana
I’ve grazed SS grass in the summer for the last several years. I don’t think stockpiling will work by the time you’re ready to use it, it would be 12ft tall and the cows will waste as much as they eat. What we did was to bale it once and rotational graze the rest of the summer. Then we stockpile the fescue for fall grazing.

My goal was to turn the cows in when the sorghum was 2-3ft tall, about the time we got to the last section of SS Grass the first one had regrown and we’d start over.
