Near-north Ontario, French River | The number I have seen tossed around is 75acres/ row. So in theory you would want to have 1800acres of corn to justify a 24 row planter. Now variables such as field size( larger fields mean more efficiency) , planting window, etc all play into the decision. In reality I wouldn't be surprised if most guys are down around the 35-50acres/row. In a perfect year it just means things get planted in a hurry, in a wet year like some have had this spring, being over equiped has mean the difference between getting the crop in and missing the optimum planting window. |
