My thoughts: I farmed through the 70's and 80's. 73-85 were good to great, for us. Yes, there was inflation, but there was money to be made. Early 80's PIK was in 83 and people who participated missed the 83 drought. the land cycle topped in 84-85. Land dropped with higher interest rates causing many to be upside down.

When we moved to Iowa, fall of 88, Farm credit had 200ish farms in inventory, drought of 83 and 88 and interest rates dealt a blow to the ag industry. The really ugly decade was from 89 to 98. Low prices and average crops and no good help from Uncle Sam.
