Following this.

If I were doing that here in Virginia, I'd probably run a split experiment with cereal rye and oats. I would try to terminate the sudangrass early, to give the small grain a few more weeks of warm weather.

To me, a bigger advantage of doing this, is having wintertime grazing without having to worry about saving the stand. Your winters might be harsh enough that winter grazing isn't even a consideration though.
