We've been on the "whenever I think about it" method, which seems to occur every 15 to 30 years I guess. With that said: I've been on a pretty heavy dose of anti biotics at times in the last 5 years. Wife - probably rightfully so- often uses things like Rid X to try to keep the bugs in the tank working. I'll likely get my tank pumped this year, just because of the recent history.

Have an ex brother in law who used to put all kinds of stuff in his drains. Grease from cooking, God knows what else. He had to have his tank pumped every couple years, and was surprised each time he had to do so.
