I think the every 5 years thing is silly. Takes none of important factors into consideration.
Tank size related to the number of people using it, drain field size and soil type, etc. Getting rid of kids in house that use paper by the yards helps. Big tank helps. Big drain field helps.
If working properly they can go many years and never need pumped.
How often should a septic tank be pumped?
