Mark, I don't consider it laziness. There are times it pays, and times it is just "nice to have."

The times it pays are when you can't see where you are going, and the autosteer keeps you accurately on track and being productive when you couldn't be otherwise, or would be wasting time/material by overlapping or missing areas.

What does pay big dividends is section control. Doing the math before making the investment, i calculated a potential 8% savings in seed and chemicals. Turns out more like 15%. That is real dollars to the bottom line, not just smoke and mirrors. It pays for the entire autosteer/precision package for us in the first two years. We have been getting the benefit of those savings now for over ten years. That's a lot of $!

So the section control really does pay the entire bill for the entire gps system, rtk base and all. The autosteer is just there anyway.
