I have two young friends that followed the "Do a good job and help the older generation" mantra. Both of them plowed snow, hauled grain at cut rates, mowed roads and yards even though they did not rent the farms.

Guess what happened to both of them! They did not get the land, they did not even get a chance to rent the land. The landowners both chose to rent to the BTO suggested by the banker.

If you want ground, don't pussyfoot around. Go after that **** like you're at the bar with a hottie. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Exactly!!!
And don't expect a lower rent, because your not a BTO.
Land is the landlords commodity.
Would you sell your grain for less because the elevator is not a conglomerate?
