| I would just let him know that you are actively looking for opportunities to expand your operation and if he hears of any to let you know. Tell him what your goals are and how you treat rented land. I wouldn’t mention his farm directly. If he is thinking of slowing down it will register with him. If not, he may have a friend that is looking and who knows where that might lead.
Just know that most opportunities that come your way won’t be exactly what you dreamed of.
There are a lot more guys looking to slow down than most young guys realize. The guy you are approaching probably doesn’t want to go from working his tail off to no involvement at all in a matter of weeks. Be prepared to work on a transition that is congruent with his values. | |
