 Eastern Washington State | I can see where that could potentially be a problem, but I've never experienced it myself. Just what people consider to be "poor yielding" wheat is going to depend on where you are at. The lowest yielding wheat I've cut with mine was about 25 bu/acre.
One thing that does help in lower yielding wheat is to harvest at an angle to the direction it was seeded, especially with wider seed rows. This helps the incoming crop form a seal against the top hood of the header and reduces header loss. You don't have to worry about it if yields are good though. Anything below about 60 bu/acre I cut at a 30 degree angle, anything yielding above that I don't worry about it. | |
