Hereford, TX | I’ve been running a stripper header since 2019 and absolutely love it. The taller stubble makes a huge difference. You’ll be amazed how long the soil surface will stay black after a rain with tall stubble. I got .85” of rain last May and I had to wait a week to plant because it was too wet. A neighbor next to me planted several days before I did where he chopped triticale silage the year before and he had a skippy stand because it dried out too fast. My dryland milo made 3,700 lbs last year with very little rain. Last year the wheat only made 25 bushel, but I have stubble that’s knee high. People that cut with a platform header have stubble that’s only a few inches high.
