| The corn in our area is suffering, as are the beans. I'm in north central Iowa. We planted in dry dirt, however, there was good subsoil moisture to start the year. We have black dirt that holds a lot of water. We're normally better off with a drier season than a wet one. With this in mind, we have recieved no more than 5 inches of rain since planting. 2" in april/ early may. Then when corn reached waist high we got another much needed 1.5". Since then we have gotten .5 through June and July. Any sandy spot is cooked. In my opinion, a lot of Iowa guys just don't post on here constantly. It's not a myth though, 1/4 of iowa is gonna stink. | |
