Subsoil in those areas for the most part hold on to a pretty good reserve that’ll carry for an amazingly long time when compared to same or not as bad of arid conditions on your sandy to gravely subsoils. This time of year an inch/week is never too much for other parts of Iowa. It would be interesting to see drought maps that aligned rainfall amounts with soil types also. I bet the map would be quite different.
