if the extra $20 spent returns $40 more in gross revenue would be the reason. Crop Revenue is there to set a floor, You still have bills to pay and $20 more per acre times 1000 acres= $20,000 more. You want your neighbors to make the decision to cut production but you shouldn't. I can't fault anybody for doing whatever looks like will make a reasonable return but the problem is when enough farmers invest the $20 they probably will lose it out of their other pocket when the price goes down. One guy's decisions doesn't change things much but when everybody chases that last bushel it does. I'm as guilty as anybody for not looking at the big picture. You only get to raise so many crops in your lifetime and it's hard to not try your best. |
