| This is probably covered in some of Johns posts, but if you are worried about the cholesterol and looking at statins, talk the doctor into having her get arterial scans to look for actual blocking of arteries, if there is any.
It's the only way to really find out what is going on inside of a body as the cholesterol numbers are nothing more than a guess and a by golly because so many folks with high cholesterol numbers score a zero on the scan and leave their doctor befuddled.
You might have to pay for the testing out of pocket, but it would be worth it.
