sw ontario
mikado , also what is happening is no one anymore is a real low cost producer--we are F-F and between realitively new barn payments vs. repairs/feed conversion difference on old barns it might be a wash....for our selves , we re-poped and have a "clean" herd but still vaccinate sows and pigs going into nursery -add in some iron , vet supplies, CQA certificate, ect. and easy to hit $5 pig , then propane/electric another $5 , taxes, ins -$5 ,part time girl $20hr. + benefits & some yrs. more, some less but $5 maintence ---u have a good chunk of cash in the pig before any feed...(talking cdn $$)........because of crappy late spring in 2019 we only planted corn 1 day ,June 12 and have been buying sow/nursery feeds and this week will be buying 100% of our feed needs so I will know exactly what the economics for our farm is each week/month.....idk farming/life is just expensive
