| The 4020, 4230 and 4040 share a basic common front clutch pak. One difference is the PTO clutch hub and output shaft and gear. 4020 has straight cut gear and needle bearings. 4230 has helical gear with needle bearings. 4040 has helical gear but uses tapered roller bearings. I have in the past had a 4040 that failed in the PTO clutch that had a salvage yard rebuild assembly that I think had been built up for a 4230, but ended up in the 4040. You may have had a similar deal. Any ways we have many 4040 PS tractors in our area, several open station and many with SGB. For the guy that wants a modern 4020 sized tractor it's as good as it gets. Far better than the 2840,2940,2950 and etc. family tractors. | |
