I think a lot of it has to do with it’s easier (cheaper) to buy a exhaust vs building a motor right which will sound great even with a quiet exhaust. Snowmobiles are the same way and they all sound like garbage with their $250 exhaust can unless they have porting/head work etc (easy $2-3k) and then they don’t need a loud exhaust to sound mean.
