My barber is my age. 51. He has been fighting cancer for over a year. His dad is retired but cut my hair today since son isn't in. He said his son's first 4 treatments totaled just over ONE MILLION dollars. He is lucky, good coverage and no lifetime limits. What is a Christian Health Share going to do in this situation if it were to happen??????

The health insurance industry is messed up. The hospital's cost is less than $100k, but will send a bill for ONE MILLION dollars to the insurance company. The insurance will negotiate this bill down to $100k and pay it a year later, after much paper work on both ends. Medicare is the same way. Bills are inflated so that the hospital will get enough to cover their REAL costs.

If your barber was with one of the Christian Health share groups, he would inform the hospital that he is self pay and ask for a discount up front. Most hospitals will gladly discount if they know they will get paid sooner and for the full amount of the REAL bill without going through claim denials and delays.

This is not on the same level as the above example, but my son needs his wisdom teeth pulled. Went to the oral surgeon yesterday for initial consultation. Talked to the girl in charge of billing. If we had insurance, the bill would be $2150. If we paid out of our pocket, it was $1400.
