Subject: RE: No-till vs Strip-till

South Central South Dakota
I went from conventional to striptill and now I’m notill

Striptill got me past that slump everyone seems to say you get in those transition years. But my cows liked to walk down my strips so I was spring stripping because of that. That posed labor and time logistics. So I dropped that and went to Fertilizer on the planter. Worked great but slowed planting. So yet another problem. I’ve now built a single disk opener machine to apply fert 4.5in in ground. Works for a corn pre and soybean too if your planting everything. I am now going into a zero broadcast program as the inefficiency of broadcast makes me sick. This machine also allows me to apply fert in the ground and the cows grazing won’t bother it at all.

Here are a few pics of the machine and passes. Will then take it and sidress corn in the spring

But this fall. Have placed fertility for beans, corn, and sunflowers.
