perryton, tx | A word of caution if you are a dry area-the first year I strip tilled I tried some on dryland acres for milo and what happened was after I stripped it didn't rain for 5 months. The strip dried out completely and when I finally did get a rain the strip had dried out so much that there still wasn't enough moisture to plant. I took a shovel and dug between the strips where the residue was and hadn't been disturbed and it was nice and moist all the way down; so I ended up having to plant between the strips so I could get a stand. I still strip till for my irrigated row crops but after that experience I said never again on dryland. | |
