southern MN | We are hearing a lot of negatives on using a grass, rye especially, as a cover crop ahead of corn. It sounds as if you need 30lbs more N, an extra dose of insect and/or fungus juice, and so forth. In a difficult climate and weather patterns (my neighborhood!) timing can get really tough. All of this costs extra dollars.
So, what are the positives of doing this? Since so many are trying, there must be some good points to it?
