| In my opinion GreenStar is your best option. If you already have 2 JD tractors wired for the GreenStar system, wiring your JD 9220 is of minimal cost (aprox $3550 US). Then you would have the option of using your components in the other tractors in the growing season (Moving the display and globe takes 5-10 minutes.) without additional cost.
The other consideration is resale value. When you have a JD tractor with GreenStar system wiring you will get a portion of that value back when you trade the tractor. But let’s say you put in a Trimble (Autofarm…or any other) system into a JD tractor what is the value? (It was our experience we had another brand steering system in our JD tractor, at trade-in time we had to remove the steering value (our cost) and tried to sell the value since it didn’t work in our new tractor.) A JD system is worth much more to a JD customer, than is a competitor system to a JD customer.
Other considerations are:
• you have a JD air drill, depending on the model year, with the GS2 you will need only 1 box in the cab to control both the air seeder and the steering, beside the recordkeeping ability of the GS2 (field doc is included). This reduces the clutter and the complexity of the technology.
• If you have a JD combine? Moving to mapping could be your next step.
We run a 47’ air seeder, for the past 3 years, with the JD Starfire 2 correction and are extremely happy the accuracy. We are looking forward to release of the iTec pro and Swath Pro options that will do other functions than just steer the tractor (Visit the JD site for more information).
