NC
I feed them a little hotter than I do my feeder calves, but not quite as hot as a finisher ration using the same ingredients. I aim for 14-15% protein. I try real hard to sell right off the ewe at 50(4-5 months). Any lbs over that are hard fought for especially in the summer(took me 11 months over the summer to get them to 80lbs). Next year they are going to grass for the summer.
Weaning hasn't worked well for me-- they don't settle down good enough to gain.
So far I have gotten by leaving most of the lambs right with the flock even though the ewes are having new lambs(why I use a hotter feed).
There are holidays that you want to be ready to sell for. So I just go thru the flock before them and cut out anything over 40 lbs. Never fails the buyers will take the smaller lambs even though they really want bigger lambs.
The ewe lambs I leave right in the flock(another reason I feed a hotter feed)
