| We had five or six on our line. Our ring was three shorts. I can still hear my mom calling her parents, who lived in town, just about every day to make sure they were okay. She would turn the crank one long to get the operator and then say 1-0-6 please. That was their number. Did anyone mention that five long rings meant someone on the line had an emergency or even just an announcement that everyone on the line was invited over sunday evening for homemade ice cream. I had to edit this just to add, that to make the ice cream we had to turn the crank also. How cool was that!
