Edgeley, Saskatchewan | I run the MOJO RTK system and have been very happy with the performance and accuracy. However when it says line of sight it means line of sight.
The aerial of the base station cannot be obstructed by terrain from the mobile unit. A few trees is not that big of a deal.
So when we are talking 8 or 16 miles I am a bit Leary of the claim for most situations, unless the terrain is very flat and the aerial is mounted on a 100' tower then I could see 16 miles.
As for my experience within the same field I tried to place the tripod on the highest spot in the field and it worked fine. But the instant that the tractor got on the backside of a hill big enough to interrupt the signal it immediately stopped steering the tractor even though being 1/2 mile apart.
So Line of sight is necessary.
This statement is not against MOJO RTK as I see very good value in the product. I believe it is true with all RTK systems.
I welcome a system other than cell phone that could broadcast the signal from a fixed base station.
Is WIFI possible? or VHF on business band radio?
