Strathcona, mn | I also think owning your equipment is a smart way to go for a beginner. If you take the time to research things it doesn't take as much as some make it sound to get a cheap equipment list together to start. There are many ways to kill the cat as long as it is dead it doesn't matter how. I started 8 years ago with a 45 hp tractor a $300 12' drill a $350 a 3 bottom plow and a $350 combine. It can be done. I try to keep my annual payments low enough that I could take a couple of bad years in stride. I understand very few circumstances where leading is feasible. I like having equity in my equipment rather than spending a glorified equipment payment without retaining much equity. Every year by may or June I sware at the world when I'm laying under a piece of machinery wrenching on it but I enjoy going through the ballance sheet. Depreciation or sweat equity...
