Subject: Is corn plant spacing blown way out of proportion?

WC Indiana
I went to an agronomy meeting the other day and the agronomist had a customer that had a row unit mess up and would plant 3 or 4 seeds in a clump and then skip and keep planting this clump of 3 or 4 seeds. They measured out the total population and it was the same as the other rows. They then measured the yield from the "hill-drop" corn row and it made 15 bushel more than the "even planted" rows beside it. If this is true maybe I don't need to spend a fortune on my planter now........
