Iowa | "Maybe im reading folks wrong but it seems king dollar has gone a bit too far in somes lives..."
Yes, I think you are reading it 100% completely wrong. Times are good, but they won't always be, BELIEVE ME on this! There is a vast, vast difference between GREED and wanting security. I saw my folks lose everything in 1986--they lived fairly good in the late '70's/early 80's--but variable interest is what really wiped them out.
My goal isn't greed but SECURITY. Watch all your old neighbors AND PARENTS get wiped out (like I did in the 80's) and you will vow it won't happen to you. Get used to living large and it's pretty hard to live conservatively. The corollary is true as well--get used to living conservatively and you won't WANT to live large--I'd rather be in that camp, for sure. Its way easier to loosen up the screws a bit compared to trying to tighten them down. From what I've been through, no "new car smell" would be worth trying to sleep with "dumb" (sorry but its the only term that comes to mind, nothing personal) debt. I'm lucky--my wife 100% with me on this, so no divorce here! (well, maybe if I came home with a $40,000 pickup!)
Maturity (not age but mindset)=delayed gratification. Work hard, be conservative, pay your dues, do without. When the gratification comes, and odds are it will-- it will be appreciated. AND you will have SECURITY.
Instant gratification ("I want it now--I work hard, I deserve it") is way way more GREEDY. and you may or may not get to SECURITY, the odds are certainly less that you'll get there.
From what I've been through, I need security. No one needs to "listen" to me. But I would hope MAYBE my thoughts MIGHT get someone through the cycles (bad times) that will eventually come.
