EC Kansas | I am guessing you really can't make it worth your while on a 1/3 crop share on irrigated land.
Of course, since you have not told us anything, we don't know your economics, the crops grown, irrigation costs, wells, pivots, flood or any of that.
Typically, irrigated cash rents or cropshares do not go over an 25% equivalent in most irrigated situations. But not knowing your basics, any advice is worthless.
So, you have to answer your own question. Do the economics work for you at 1/3 cropshare? If so, keep farming. IF not, let him knock himself out.
The other question is what is market rent in your area for similar ground? If 1/3 is over market and you cannot make a return satisfactory to you on a 3-5 year rotation, than the answer is obvious. | |
