North Central Illinois | Well probably not. Just trying to get you fired up. I suppose I don't have anymore of a right to make a profit on corn than you do to buy my corn at below my cost of production. I will ask the question again since you seem to keep avoiding the question. How much ethanol do we export to Middle Eastern countries? I am looking for a gallons figure. Telling me UAE ranks fifth in countries we export to means absolutely nothing. I know you as a livestock producer are going through a tough time and I'm not completely unsympathetic. Where were you and other end users of corn with your sympathy when grain producers endured a couple of decades of prices that were scarcely break even? It became obvious in the 80's that we were going to be able to produce far more corn than we could consume because yields kept improving. We as grain producers were told that we needed to find new markets for our product. Well the idea of ethanol had been around a while but farmer groups and people wanting to lessen our dependence of foreign oil finally picked up the ball and ran with it convincing congress that ethanol would be a two fold blessing. A use for a huge surplus of grain and a way to cut our dependence on foreign oil. Don't blame me because we did what we were asked to do. Yes, I know the mandate blah, blah, blah. What would your argument be right now if ethanol were running without a mandate and the subsidy? As far as I can tell your situation today would not be any different and I don't believe you would be any happier. | |
