Subject: RE: remodel old farm house or build new?

Northeast Indiana (Auburn)
I went the remodel route on a house built in 1888. We added 600sq foot to the house. All of the extra area went to expand the kitchen and add a living room. If you remodel add a new living area. This will be your best spent money because you will be using it the most. When we got done the old living room became a master bedroom (14'X18') and the dinning room 16'X18') became my farm office/computer room. Would I do it again? Yes. I also jacked the house up and put a new basement under the whole house with 9' walls. Also I have all new plumbing and electrical. The total cost of my remodel including a 32'X42' garage was $110,000. I was the general contractor on my project which saved me about $30,000. If you like your house remodel, if not build new.
