Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Concerning the situation where your bed speed sensor dropped out. As you are likely aware, various shaft speed sensors are available. One D.J. style uses an internal optical sensor.. The shaft turns a plastic disk that consists of alternating black and white sections. Each time the optical sensor detects a change in color it produces a shorting pulse on the signal line. This type often requires a pull-up resistor between the constant power and the signal line.
These sensors come in two different "speed ranges". The only difference is the internal disk with the alternating black/white stripes. The model for slower speeds has more narrow stripes producing more pulses/revolution than the fast model. Since your shaft is turning rather slowly, the one with more narrow stripes might work directly
Another option would be to sense off of another shaft that is turning faster but still in direct proportion to the bed speed.
Side personal note. I noticed you are from PA and involved in Ag. One of my close friends lives in PA. He lives on a small farm that was once a research farm for the development of potatoes way back when. He was involved at Penn State for many years. He became the fill-in President and then actual President due to the Sandusky affair some years ago. His wife jokes that the statue of Joe was hidden in her Dad's garage in Grimes Iowa where she came from. I need to get out there and visit them sometime.
