NW IA | I know it's not for everyone, but it's near perfect for me.
There is a rain gutter on the South roof, and I can go through the gates to each of the pens and scrape a couple of scoops of wet manure up every three or four days or as needed to keep the critters from tracking it onto the bedding. The one gate opens to my sorting area so the cattle can be out there while scraping. The gate on the West side falls shut on its own so I have a pvc pipe I nudge with the skidder bucket to go in and out. Just a few minutes a couple of times a week keeps things quite nice and clean.
I will admit that bunk feeding would complicate things, it would be harder to keep feed dry.
Should mention the "mess" by the fence is soy bean stubble. Free choice round bales for roughage. There is some on the East side for that pen as well.
