| Around here there is no such thing as a 1000-3000 GPM shallow well. Many of the wells "here" put out 1-3 GPM at best. So a big bore hole is definitely better than a 6-8" drilled well when the recovery of the well is slow. If I remember correctly, there are about 29 gallons of water per ft in a 3' dia well. My house well is a small dia rotary drilled well. It's 140' deep but I can't fill an 8' sheep tank in one shot. The recovery rate for most all shallow wells in this immediate area is pathetic. The water is high alkalai and high sulphur. So it's poor water and not much of it. 10 miles either direction makes some difference. I have a 140' small dia well at my other place that is excellent water and has never been pumped dry. 10 miles another direction and you just don't get a shallow well, period. I'm fortunate to get hooked up to my neighbor's 2850' artesian well a year ago.
