That may have been true with some of the early plows but I think it was mostly made up by contractor's with wheel machines who were trying to scare guy's away from the plows.  A tile plow is nothing more than a giant ripper so it's going to heave and fracture the soil while the wheel machine is moving through the soil much like a disk and is going to smear the sidewall constantly.
