Numbers, China is a despicable Communist Oligarchy. Their "News" is official state propaganda. That includes the English language versions you are so proud you read. It's not like reading Le Monde, Die Welt, or The Times. Those papers might have biases, but they are not state propaganda organs or subject to state pressure. All of the papers in China are one or the other; including the Hong Kong papers.

All news and all government data in authoritarian governments is presented to make the party, the state, and/or the dictator appear strong and successful. No, it's not like political spin or tweets by a narcissistic president; there is no equivocation. In a propaganda state like China, all news and stats paint only great pictures of government and their policies and those pronouncements are indisputable facts, even when most are lies.

China may say or write whatever it wants. Soybeans are their biggest arrow in this war; that tells you a lot about their tiny quiver. It does not end well for them. Companies will move factories out of China quickly if it harms their access to the American market. This is already being discussed. The economic value of those export jobs and their multiplier effects are critical to that nation; they will drastically recess without them.

The world may use less soybeans in the future and that may impact US agriculture slightly. That lower demand will come, not because of tariffs, but because China does not consume nearly as much pork as it did. Meanwhile, our products can be made just as easily in dozens of other poor nations.
