North Central Illinois
For us 2018 has been nothing like 2012. We were very dry from 2011 when 2012 rolled in. Spring temperatures were much above normal continuing right into summer. Rains were very hard to come by until late July early August. While we ended a little on the dry side in 2017 it was nothing like 2011. Our subsoil profile got recharged by ample May and June rains this year where as in 2012 it did not. Our temperatures have been warmer than the past couple of springs but nothing like 2012. The last couple of weeks have seen temperatures that are a little more reminiscent of 2012 but not as bad and with much more moisture for the crop. With all of that said I agree that there are enough warning signals that we need to pay attention. This year feels much different than the past few and things moving forward look to get interesting. A stocks to use ratio that is the lowest since 2012 and questionable weather moving forward coupled with a neutral to bullish acreage report doesn't exactly paint a bearish picture. As is always the case it is in the hands of Mother Nature moving forward.
