South Central Iowa | We dropped in price in 2012 all the way into July. The planting pace started off perfect and conditions were as high as ever. Then on June 29th, a Derecho ripped across Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. It was a fast moving line of storms with severe wind; the phenomenon is a rare event.....
Well, Thursday, June 28th, a Derecho went through Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, and down into the Deep South. It was the first Derecho in 6 years, the first since 2012.
After 2012 it didn't rain again for much of the corn belt. Temps were much above normal, GDU accumulation rapid. Harvest was early and short. This year's harvest is likely to be very early as mentioned below.
I found it strange the last Derecho was 2012 and as is mentioned below; rapid crop development and harvest at unusually early times typically occurs in years like '88 or '12. Price collapsed early in 2012 as well.
There are many strange similarities; Price collapse, rapid GDU accumulation, a late June weather phenomenon in a heat wave..... great expectations, but does something else come in order? | |
