S Illinois | My question is what is the end game? Closing the trade gap can only be done by either decreased US consumption or increased Chinese consumption. The decreased US consumption will be accomplished by higher US consumer prices. The latter would be extremely tough to implement. Forced consumption will low basis in economic need has never and will never work. Imagine the uproar if it was decreed that the US must increase its importation of European cars or Canadian dairy(the board doesn't look to highly upon the quota system already). It just feels like in 3 or 4 months we will go back to exactly what there was before. My hope is this situation is looked at critically and not acted upon due to some feel of loss of patriotic pride or due to a future South Park episode plot line(think "they tik ouur jobbs" for the younger NAT members). | |
