So if a landowner bit on the carrot and put land in wetland CRP, is it really anyone's fault, other than their own, if the Corps or NRCS or FSA says "Whoaaaa, Nelly...that's a wetland now. Can't farm it."

I would not be surprised if some land that is going/has gone in never sees a productive crop grown again. It is unfortunate that the government seems h*ll bent on pushing cash rents higher when, at a reasonable rental rate, a lot of that ground could be farmed/grazed/hayed and be productive. Might not be farmed with traditional row crops, but "productive" can mean a lot of things.

Too many CRP farms that I've seen get overgrown with thistles, sumac, and all sorts of other fun weeds, but the ACH keeps showing up in the bank.
