It's a good thing the pressure needs to be 143,000 psi for ice-nine to exist, otherwise we'd be in trouble (literary reference). But perhaps an equally important factor is the viscosity of water at lower temperatures. As you can see from the chart below, the viscosity of water increases quite markedly between 20 C (68F) and 5C (41F). It turns out that this has a marked effect on the translocation of the products of photosynthesis and metabolism located in the leaves that need to be moved to the seeds in the pods during seed fill. It doesn't have to freeze to decrease yield. The last few years the northern plains states have been had an average Sept temp. several degrees warmer than average. The difference between a warm fall and cool fall is worth several bushel in yield.
Will it change the market tomorrow, propably not but will it show up eventually, yes.
